The winter flight schedule for EuroAirport Basel -Mulhouse-Freiburg (26.10.2008 - 28.03.2009) includes several new features, such as better early morning and evening connections to important business centres.
EasyJet, for example, is expanding its flight offering for business customers with one morning and one evening flight each to its new destination, London Gatwick and to Amsterdam. There will also be more flights at weekends to Berlin and Hamburg. From 21 December, Ryanair will fly twice weekly to London Stansted. As in summer, Aigle Azur is also flying once a week to the Algerian town of Setif during the winter. During the winter, TUIfly will offer flights to four Egyptian destinations: as well as Hurghada and Sharm-El-Sheikh, it will now also have weekly flights to Marsa Alam and Luxor.
The winter flight programme also reflects the following changes airlines have made to their schedules: easyJet will no longer fly to London Luton, London Stansted and Liverpool. From 1 September 2008, Air France ceased flying to Bordeaux and Cimber Air will be offering just one flight per day to Copenhagen. Ryanair will temporarily suspend all flights between 4 November and 18 December 2008.
This winter 17 airlines will provide a total of approximately 460 scheduled flights per week to more than 60 destinations. The holiday flights offered around 20 tour operators include 15 destinations in southern Europe and North Africa.
In the first nine months of 2008, EuroAirport handled 3.3 million passengers. Compared with the same period last year, this figure has increased by 1%, with the number of movements remaining stable.
Although the winter flight schedule indicates some restraint on the part of the airlines, EuroAirport is still expecting year-end figures to be on a par with the previous year's result, i.e. slightly more than four million passengers.
